Chesapeake – Veronica Yvonne Jones, 57, of the 800 block of Quail Avenue was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Veronica "Yvonne" as she was affectionately known was educated in the Chesapeake Public School system and attended Norfolk State University. She retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth after 30 years of faithful and dedicated service. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Campostella, where she worshipped and served faithfully.
She leaves to cherish her memory three brothers, Darryl L. Jones, Iris L. Jones, Jr. (JoAnn) and Kevin L. Jones of Chesapeake; one sister, Jennifer A. Holmes of Chesapeake; a special aunt, Ethel P. Thompson of Chesapeake; two aunts, Jennette Lewis and Dorothy Whitmore of Chesapeake; obne uncle, Junius L. Thompson, Sr. of Chesapeake; five nieces, three nephews, seven great nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, two best friends, Joyce Williams and Carol Drumgo of Chesapeake; a special friend, Tyrone Smith of Norfolk and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Campostella. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 pm at the church. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
