Life Reflections

William Junior Irby passed away peacefully at Sentara Princess Anne, Virginia Beach, Virginia on Thursday, December 8, 2011. He was born in Halifax County, Virginia on June 16, 1952 and was the beloved son of Dorine Womack Irby and the late William Penn Irby. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Addie Spellman Irby, of 37 years.

Bill, affectionately known by family and friends as "Chilly B", and also known for his immaculate wardrobe, was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School class of 1970. He worked at the Northrop-Grumman Newport News Shipyard, retiring after 36 years of faithful service. Bill touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. He enjoyed listening to soul music and after retirement watching soap operas.

Bill leaves to cherish the many wonderful memories, his beloved children, Antonio Irby (Michelle), Deitrick Irby, his treasured grandchildren, Markell Poteat, Tyateonia Irby, and Micha Irby, his devoted brothers, Ralph (Demonica) , Lewis (Samantha) and Lamont, his loving sisters, Bobbie Irby, Dorlean Irby Corbin and Linda Irby Boston (Henry), his dear uncle Luther Irby who was more of a brother, god daughters, Michelle Jackson, Bonita White and Roxanne Yates; god grandchildren, Jodeci, Tya, Imoni and Jonneaceasa Jackson, Rodney White and Cameron Harris, as well as, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and host of extended family members and close friends.

Viewing is from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the wake is from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Pretlow & Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake, VA Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1502 Link Street, Norfolk, VA 23504. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA immediately following the service.
