Obituary

Mother Willie Elizabeth Edmonds (95) also known as "Honey" by those who knew her well, "Granny & "Gran Gran" by her grand's and great grand's, entered into eternal rest on Thursday April 30, 2015. Honey was born to the late Miles and Cordelia Rodgers, Sr., on December 25, 1919 in Williamston NC. She received her education there and later relocated to Chesapeake Virginia, following her cousin and childhood friend the late Mother Marie Rhodes. It was here that she met and married the love of her life Alvin R. Edmonds. Through this union they were blessed with two children Letisa Kidd and Tony B. Brown, whom they cherished.

Honey was gainfully employed with the Chesapeake Public School System until she retired and soon after opened her doors, arms and heart in providing day care services for Mothers far and near in need of her service. Children were her ministry, as she would teach them how to pray and worship her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Her favorite scripture: Psalms 24 was what she stood on. She was a woman of great faith, known for her late night prayers on the phone (sitting at her kitchen table) for anyone who was in despair. She walked in God's word literally, by using the pages (aka leaves) from a special set aside bible and laid them on her body whenever there was a pain, until it went away. This she did for years before ever going to a Doctor.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Alvin R. Edmonds, four sisters: Agnes Jones, Beulah Jones, Mary Rodgers and Carrie Rodgers; one brother: Miles Rodgers, Jr., and one grandson, Tione Richard Billups.

Mother Elizabeth Edmonds leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Letisa Kidd, Chesapeake, VA, and Audrey Brown (Richard) of Richmond, VA; one son Tony B. Brown, Burkeville, VA; two sisters: Viola Rodgers Brown, Williamston, NC, and Fannie Williams of Bronx, New York; three grandchildren: Michael A. Billups (Berlinda)Virginia Beach, VA, Natasha Billups, Chesapeake, VA, and Latoya Cromuel, Chesapeake, VA; nine great grandchildren; a devoted cousin, Doris Mullens, Chesapeake, VA; two spiritual daughters: Ella Royster, Chesapeake, VA, and Reverend Elaine P. Witherspoon, Chesapeake, VA; one adopted granddaughter: Evangelist Marilyn Mac Cracken, Chesapeake, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A home going service will be held 12 noon Friday at Cathedral of Faith COGIC,2020 Portlock Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23324. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be 4-7pm Thursday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home.
