Chesapeake – Zelpha J. Whidbee, 77, of the 700 block of Gainsborough Court, departed this life Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Born November 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Pearl and Davis Jennings. She was predeceased by 7 brothers and 4 sisters. She was a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memories are her loving children, Shelby Jordan of Eden, N.C., Wilbert Jordan, Jr. (Debra) of Portsmouth, and Porta Lawrence (Darryl) of Norfolk; adopted daughters, Phyllis Brooks (Charles) of Portsmouth and Patricia Edgerton; a very special friend, Jessie Kennedy of Virginia Beach; sisters, Mary Green and Ella Mae Simmons and brother, Columbus Dozier all of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 12:00 pm at New Galilee Baptist Church Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 4pm 8 pm Friday at Cainbridge Square Apartments, Gainsborough Court, Chesapeake. Viewing will be held 2pm – 7 pm Friday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake where the family will receive friends from 6 pm – 7 pm.
