Zenobia Harris Boger, beloved mother, went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 after a long illness. She went peacefully in her home in Norfolk.
Born in Kinston, North Carolina to the late William and Betty Moore Harris on May 24, 1925, she was one of seven siblings who were orphaned as children following the early deaths of both parents. She lived in Norfolk for a short time as a teenager, and attended Booker T. Washington High School. However, she returned to Kinston, where she graduated from Adkin High School in 1942.
She retired from Norfolk Dept of Human Services in 1988 as Child Care Worker. She was a faithful member of Faith Pentecostal Church of Deliverance in Norfolk until her illness. She was also a member of Beulah Temple #4 Daughters of IBPOE.
She is predeceased by her daughter, Betty Jean Harris, husband, Monroe C. Boger; her brothers, Theodore Harris and Cornelius Harris, Sr.; sisters, Lora Harris Clemmons; and Dorothy Louise Harris-Moore. She left behind to cherish her memory one daughter, Delores Harris; two sisters, Prophetess Lillian Duke, and Willie Mae Harris-McGriff; nephews, Cornelius Harris (Katherine), William Harris, Donald Harris-McGriff (Barbara); Dr. Marvin L Duke (Beulah); Delbert Duke (Judy) ; nieces, Earline Duke Edmonds, Nora Hill (Bill), Joyce Harris Branch; Luella Harris; grand nephews, Marvin L. Duke, Jr., Gregory Estes and Aaron Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Going Home services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at The Chesapeake Christian Center, 300 Liberty Street, Chesapeake, VA. Viewing will be held at 2:00-pm on Monday, September 3, 2012 at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake, VA. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com.
